Free Amigurumi Pattern: Narutomaki 🍥

Do you know what is narutomaki? Well, more than the famous anime character, narutomaki or naruto 🍥 is part of the Japanese food. It is a kind of seasoned fish paste roll that some people like as a topping in ramen soup or soba. Also, narutomaki 🍥 is one of the cutest emoji you can find, it’s one of my favorite! This is my pattern to make a cute and smiling naruto amigurumi!

Notes:

The pattern is written in american terms. It is work in spiral with the two different yarn colors at the same time. I made my narutomaki with light worsted (#3) yarn but you can make it with any yarn that you prefer, no matter how thick it is as long as you use 1 or 2 sizes less than the one recommended by that particular yarn. Right after finishing every color round leave a big loop and before starting to work adjust it to “fit” correctly in your hook. The number between parentheses in some rounds is the number of stitches you should have in this round. Read the pattern carefully before you start crocheting.

Materials:

  • Yarn: “Favorito” (#3 light worsted) by Hilos Omega (50 grs – 125 mts / 1.74 Oz – 137 yds) just scrap yarn in white and pink.
  • 3.25 mm (D-3 USA) crochet hook.
  • 2 stitch markers.
  • Two safety eyes.

  • Scissors.

Abbreviations (american terms):

  • St, sts: stitch, stitches.

Instructions (make two pieces):

1.- With white yarn, 2 sc, hdc; in a magic ring, (place a stitch marker in the first stitch). Drop the white yarn and leave a big loop of white yarn. Now with the pink yarn, make one standing single crochet (if you don’t know how to make it, I highly recommend watch this video it’s very well explained) then make a regular sc and one hdc; drop the pink yarn and leave a big loop. (6 sts total; 3 white and 3 pink). Close the magic ring. You will have something like this…

2.- Insert your hook in the white loop, adjust it, BLO, 3 inc made in the three pink stitches, when you finish, drop the white yarn and remember to leave a big loop (I won’t repeat it again), now insert your hook in the pink loop, and make BLO 3 inc in the white stitches (12 sts total, 6 white, 6 pink).

3.- With the white yarn, BLO (Sc, inc) x 3 in the pink stitches, drop white yarn. With pink, BLO, (sc, inc) x 3 in the white stitches, drop pink yarn. (18 sts total, 9 white, 9 pink).

6.- From this moment on we’ll work only with white yarn. BLO place a marker in the first stitch (4 sc, inc) x 3, 1 hdc, 3 sc, inc, * 4 sc, inc; repeat from * until the end of the round. (36 sts).

7.- 2 sc, inc, * 5 sc, inc; repeat from * 5 more times, 3 sc. (42 sts).

8.- Dec, sc, dec, 2 sl st. (40).

9.- * Skip 1, 5 dc (make them a little bit loose) in the next st, sl st; repeat from * to the end of the round. Finish with a sl st, cut your yarn and leave a long tail. Weave in all yarn ends.

10.- Place your safety eyes in the center of one of the crocheted pieces and with black embroidery floss embroider the mouth. Now sew the two pieces together and fill it a little bit before you finish sewing it.
