Free crochet pattern

Three fast, easy and free patterns. Part three: Super Basic Headband.

Finally, the third part of the Three Fast and Easy series is this headband. It’s very wearable, very easy and also customizable. You won’t believe how easy it’s this crocheted headband. Anyone can make it! So grab your yarn and start crocheting!

Now it’s time to make a project just for you, with your crochet basic knowledge and any yarn you have at home. You will be proud and happy to wear something that you made with your own hands.

But if you like my patterns 😍 and want to support my work, please, I ask you to help me reach my goals 🙏and buy me a coffee. Thank you in advance! I really appreciate your generosity. ❤️

  • A little bit of any yarn that you like. I used much less than a 50 grs skein of fingering wool blend yarn (baby yarn). But you can use any yarn that you available, it can be thicker which is good for a very beginner.
  • A crochet hook appropriate for your yarn, for my headband I used a 1.90 mm steel hook. Just check the yarn label to find out the best size for your yarn.
  • A darning needle.
  • Scissors.
  • Measuring tape.

Note: obviously there’s no gauge for this pattern because you use any yarn of your choice, a different one than the one I used. The pattern is written in american terms.

I ❤️ headbands!

1.- The first thing you need to know is the measurement of the head of who is going to use the headband. If you can’t measure the head circumference of that person you can check one of the many head size charts available in the internet. Like this one that I find good, easy to use and understand.

Let’s suppose you are making this for yourself, and your head measures 23″ (58.5 cm). To make a headband that fits properly you need to make sure that your work length will be 2″ (5 cm) less than the size indicated in the chart. This means that my headband is 21 “long (53 cm) long.

2.- My headband is 3¼ ” (8.5 cm) wide, you can make it wider or narrower, it’s your choice. For my headband I made 27 chains. You can make more or less chains until your chains measure the size you want, it depends on the yarn you are using.

3.- Make a double crochet inserting your hook in the 4th chain from the hook, now continue making double crochet until the end of the row.

4.- Make 3 chains, turn your work and continue making double crochet until the end of the row.

5.- Continue repeating the last row until you’ve reached the desired length for your headband, cut the yarn and weave in the yarn ends.

6.- With your darning needle and the same yarn you used, sew both ends of the headband together. Now make a few stitches to ruch it. Fasten off.

7.- Now we need to crochet a small rectangular piece of fabric. Make a chain of 2″ (5 cm), and make 3 chains more, make a double crochet in the 4th chain from the hook and continue making double crochet until the end of the row.

8.- Make 3 chains and then continue making double crochet until the end of the row.

9.- Repeat the last row until your work measure 5″ (12 cm), cut the yarn and weave in all the yarn ends. Now sew this rectangle covering the seam you made to join the two ends of the headband.

That’s it! You just made a headband right in time for this warmer weather, when we spend more time outdoors. Enjoy it!

I hope you like it and see you soon!
